Goals and tasks
The main goal is to clarify the best Latvian chess players in the year of 2009.

Participants
Latvian and foreign players with at least I sports grade in chess.
Regulations
There will be played 9 rounds, according to Swiss system. If there will be more than 10 women, there will be played separate men and women championships according to Swiss system. If there will be 10 women, there will be played round robin, 9 rounds.
FIDE rating will be calculated.
Time control
1 hour for 40 moves plus 15 minutes till the end of the game and 10 seconds for each move for each player.
Evaluation
Players will be evaluated according to absolute score gained. In case of equal result there will be used: 1) Advenced Buchold; 2) Buchold; 3) Progressive Point coefficients.
Prizes
Players obtained 1st – 3rd places in men category will be awarded with diplomas, medals and money prizes:
I place - 600 LVL
II place - 450 LVL
III place - 350 LVL
IV place - 250 LVL
V place - 150 LVL
VI place - 80 LVL
Rating prizes:
with ELO (Latvian rating in case participant doesn’t have ELO) rating under 2200 – 80 LVL;
with ELO (Latvian rating in case participant doesn’t have ELO) rating under 2000 – 80 LVL;
Best senior player (born in 1949 or earlier) – 80 LVL;
Best junior player (born in 1991 or after) – 80 LVL
Players obtained 1st – 3rd places in women category will be awarded with diplomas, medals and money prizes:
I place - 300 LVL
II place - 200 LVL
III place - 100 LVL
Overall prize fund – 2800 LVL. (1 EUR ≈ 0.7 LVL).
Prize fund can be increased if there will be sponsors or there will be more than 50 players. Prizes will be played in full extent and each player (resident) is responsible for paying personal income tax. There will be withholded taxes from non-residents according to law “On personal income tax”.
Prize fund in Blitz tournament depends on the number of players.
Costs
Organisation and awarding costs are covered by Latvian Chess association. Travel, board and lodging costs are covered by players or commanding organisations.
Entry fee in Latvian championship – 5 LVL
(10 LVL for players that are not members of LCA ).
Entry fee in Blitz tournament – 1.5 LVL
(2 LVL for players that are not members of LCA ).
There is free entry for GM, WGM, IM, WIM.

There must be written name, surname, sports grade, birth date, national or ELO rating for each player.
Accommodation
Organizer offers accommodation in recreation centre „Mezezers” that is situated exactly in the playing venue.
There are rooms for 2 or 4 persons – 8 LVL per person per night (1 EUR ≈ 0.7 LVL).
Summer houses without conveniences (there must be taken sleeping-bags) – 1.5 LVL per person per night.
Tent place – 3 LVL per tent per night (children under 14 – 1 LVL).
Organizer provides free board and lodging for 10 grandmasters (GM and WGM). In case there are more than 10 grandmasters in championship, the priority is for:
1) grandmasters that have participated in previous tournaments in recreation centre “Mezezers”;
2) grandmasters with higher ELO rating.
If there are less than 10 grandmasters (GM and WGM) organizers provide international masters (IM and WIM) with free accommodation. The priority is for:
3) international masters that have participated in previous tournaments in recreation centre “Mezezers”;
4) international masters with higher ELO rating.
The total number of players that are provided with free accommodation won’t exceed 10.
Catering
There is a café in recreation centre, where can be ordered breakfast, lunch and dinner of approximately following prices:
- breakfast – 1.20 LVL;
- lunch – 2.50 LVL;
- dinner – 1.30 LVL.
Recreation opportunities
There are various recreation opportunities in spare time:
1) swimming, boat and catamaran driving, fishing in Odzes lake that is situated near the resort;
2) basketball, football, volleyball;
3) sauna;
4) walking and berry-picking in the open air etc.
Additional services
- washing + drying (one time) – 3 LVL;
- grill + firewood + roasting-jacks (24 hours) – 3.5 LVL;
- keeping pet in recreation centre (with additional arrangement) – 0.5 LVL;
- boat rent: 1h – 1.5 LVL, each next hour – 1.00 LVL, 24 hours – 8.00 LVL;
- VELO rent: 1h – 1.5 LVL, each next hour – 1.00 LVL, 24 hours – 6.00 LVL, each next 24 hours – 4,00 LVL;
- sauna: first 2 hours – 35 LVL, each next hour – 10 LVL.
About 3 km from the recreation centre there is a city Plavinas where shops are available.
Simultant game with GM Alexei Shirov
There will be provided exclusive opportunity to play simultant game with GM Alecei Shirov.
Entry fee: 20 LVL. The time will be announced during championship. There can not participate players higher than CM (candidate of master). Maximum number of players – 30.
Lectures
Lecture of GM (Alexei Shirov, Evgeny Sveshnikov , Janis Klovans or other GM) 5 LVL per lecture for members of LCA (10 LVL for others).
How to get to recreation centre „Mezezers”
127 km distance (1.5 hours drive) from Riga along Riga-Daugavpils motorway. Driving along bypass of Plavinas city, turn right to city Ergli (please follow the advertisements in yellow colour). Near the turn to city Ergli there is located petrol station “LUKOIL”. After 4 km on right hand there is a sign “Mezezers sporta un atputas baze 1.5 km”.

Motivate a new generation to play chess, starting to organise international team chess tournament for young chess players.

Participants
There can participate Latvian and foreign teams consisting of players born in 1993 or younger.
There are 5 basic players (4 boys and 1 girl) in each team.
Team can register no more than 2 reserve players.
Regulations
There will be played 7 rounds, according to Swiss system. Games will be played between teams and each round is played with 5 team players. There must play girl on 5th table.
Reserve player plays instead of a basic player which is not playing the exact round. If both reserve players play, there must be observed the sequence showed in registration form.
FIDE rating will not be calculated.
Time control
1 hour for 40 moves plus 30 minutes till the end of the game for each player.
Evaluation
In order to set winning teams there will be summed total score for each player in the particular team. In case of equal result there will be used:
1) Advenced Buchold;
2) Buchold;
3) Progressive Point coefficients.
Prizes
Teams obtained 1st – 3rd places will be awarded with diplomas, medals and prizes.
Players obtained 1st places in their board will be awarded with diplomas and prizes. Board places will be fixed according to the proportion of achieved points and played games – the place is higher if the result is higher. If the result is equal, prize will be given for the player whose team has obtained higher place. Prizes will be given only if the player has played 5 games.
Costs
Organisation and awarding costs are covered by Latvian Chess association. Travel, board and lodging costs are covered by players or commanding organisations. There is no entry fee in Alexei Shirov I Cup.
